The DA’s Johann Loots is the new Ward 8 councillor after he won a by-election on Wednesday October 23 with 85.4% of the votes.
The ward covers areas in Brackenfell and Kuils River (“Meet candidates for Ward 8 by-election,” October 18).
The by-election was triggered by the retirement of DA councillor Marian Nieuwoudt at the end of July.
Mr Loots won the ward with 3 345 votes followed by Carla Lourens-Ferreira, of the Cape Independence Party, with 525 votes (13.4%) and the ANC’s Lindiwe Kunene with 42 votes (1%).
Sha-Meemah Mohamed El Bana of the Truth and Solidarity Movement got three votes (0.08%).
