Twelve staff at a Durbanville restaurant were pleasantly surprised during their night shift when a generous customer left them a R6000 tip.
The customer and his family asked to remain anonymous, says Andrea Bennett, the marketing manager of Simply Asia, in the Spiro’s centre on the corner of Vrede and Main streets, Durbanville.
“The man and his family are regular customers and visits us quite frequently,” she said.
On Friday night July 30, they had asked the waitress for recommendations and the bill had come to R453, said Ms Bennett.
After the meal, the man told the waitress that he wanted the R6000 tip to be split evenly among the staff.
“He said that he wished to do this as he understands that great service is only possible as a team effort.
“Our staff are feeling extremely appreciative and grateful for this amazing gesture. This has already motivated them to work harder and stay positive, especially during these tough and troubling times.”
