Couple in court for insurance fraud

The Hawks arrested a couple for insurance fraud on Saturday May 21, in Bellville.

Members of the Directorate Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), and National Investigations Unit (NIU) executed a search and seizure warrant at three addresses in the Western Cape, two in Vredenburg and one in Bellville, resulting in the arrest of a couple both aged 38. “The arrests followed investigations into two alleged fraudulent insurance claims amounting to thousands of rand allegedly perpetrated in Cape Town recently. “The raids were meticulously planned and co-ordinated with precision at the same time in the said properties,” said Hawks spokesman Lieutenant Lloyd Ramovha. Several documents and suspected stolen property were seized. The couple appeared in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Monday May 23 on charges of fraud.
