Countdown to next month’s matric exams

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has wished matric pupils well as they count down to their finals, starting on Monday October 16.

In a statement, the department said matric pupils were “entering arguably one of the most challenging and stressful time of their lives so far – the build up to their final examinations”.

The National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams start with computer application technology (CAT) practicals on October 16, but most candidates will start on Tuesday October 24 with English home language and first and second additional language papers.

The WCED said it had given schools Tips for Success books, containing study advice and practice exam papers, for every pupil.

The 104-page booklet, which has links to online-revision videos, can be downloaded from the WCED’s website, via “Matric Support” at https:/wcedonline.

The WCED has an online library of digital resources, and candidates can search for content by grade, subject, topic and keyword at http://wcedeportal.co.za

“The importance of practising exam questions cannot be emphasised enough,” the department said, advising pupils to use their June exam results to gauge their strong and weak subjects.

The revision videos on the WCED’s YouTube channel offer guidance on how to tackle specific exam questions. Pupils can link to these from the department’s Matric Support website, where there are also 57 frequently asked questions.

“We are confident that the Class of 2017 will do us proud, thanks to the hard work of our learners, teachers, principals and officials, supported by parents,” the statement said.
