Sub-council 7 has supported a recommendation to lease City-owned land in Fisantekraal to police at a nominal fee.
At a meeting on Monday September 18, the council agreed to lease the land, which the police are using as a satellite station, to police for R2 800 a month.
The council heard that there was no formal agreement between the City and police, hence the application.
The sub-council approval is conditional on police being liable for rates, the rental being reviewed after five years, an annual 8% increase in rent and the property only being used for police purposes.
The 346m2 property on the corner of Dullah Omar Street and Lords Walk, has a charge office, a toilet, a boardroom and victim-support wendy house.
Ward 21 councillor Taki Amira said police were carrying out a much needed service in Fisantekraal with minimal staff.
In his chairman’s report, Gerhard Fourie said the City was continuing with its efforts to clamp down on excessive water users in areas such as Durbanville, Oakdale, Rondebosch and Parklands. He said water management devices would be installed at homes in those areas in coming weeks.
“Households will be restricted to an allocation of 350 litres per day unless an application to increase the allocation is made to the City. Such an application must be done in the form of an affidavit which will be verified by the water inspectors,” he said.
“We are clamping down on people who refuse to play their part and to reduce usage. So far, 21 500 letters have been sent to excessive users,” he said.

The sub-council supported several liquor-licence applications and extension-of-liqour-trading-hours applications, including: Stellenberg Kwikspar, Stellenberg Tops, Sonstraal Tops, Babuskha Sports Bar and Saddles Burger Bar and Grill.
Tops Durbanville’s application was supported on condition they have security to keep homeless people and loiterers out of the shopping centre parking lot; deny admission to minors, install and maintain at least one security camera facing the front of the premises and parking lot; and ensure the parking area is well lit.
