Police raided an abalone-processing plant in Monte Vista on Thursday January 18 and arrested four men between the ages of 25 and 35.
A large quantity of abalone was seized during the operation as well as abalone-processing apparatus.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula said the seizure was a significant blow to the illegal abalone trade.
Goodwood police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Hennie Rademeyer said the men would appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on Monday January 22.
