Kraaifontein police arrested a 34-year-old man for the illegal possession of a firearm and another two suspects, aged 23 and 27, for housebreaking and theft, last week.
According to Kraaifontein spokesman, Captain Hein Hendricks, Constable Lee-Roy Adonis, received information while investigating a case of housebreaking and theft that a taxi driver was in possession of an illegal firearm on Wednesday, October 9.
“The detective with the assistance of the Crime Prevention Unit followed up the information and at 10.30am they pulled over the taxi, which was on its way to Cape Town from Kraaifontein on the N1 in Brackenfell.
“Further investigations led the members to Phosa Street, Wallacedene, where a 9mm pistol with several rounds of ammunition – reported stolen on Monday September 7 2019, in Bloekombos – was recovered hidden at the residence of the taxi driver.”
Further investigations led the officers to Bellville taxi rank where two suspects aged 23 and 27 were arrested for housebreaking and theft.
“The suspects are accused of breaking in and stealing the firearm and ammunition in Blekie Street, Bloekombos,” said Captain Hendricks.
