Flying Squad and dog unit officers arrested three suspected hijackers in Bellville.
The men, who are all in their 30s, were apprehended on Thursday January 31 following a tip-off about a suspicious vehicle.
The Opel Astra was pulled over in Robert Sobukwe Street at 12.30pm, said Bellville police’s Lieutenant Colonel Fienie Nimb.
When officers searched the car and the men, they found three unlicensed 9mm firearms, two with serial numbers filed off.
Lieutenant Colonel Nimb said one of the guns had also been reported stolen and the car had been in Kraaifontein earlier this year.
Six armed men robbed a shop in Strand Street, Bellville, on Wednesday January 31 at about 10pm.
Lieutenant Colonel Nimb said the men entered the shop and held-up five workers.
They took cash, cigarettes and fled with one of the worker’s vehicles, which was later found in Khayelitsha.
Lieutenant Colonel Nimb said no shots were fired but one worker was hit on the head with a firearm.
The robbers are still at large.
