A policeman was arrested after he allegedly used a police vehicle to assist a cash-in-transit heist in Wabrug Road, Kraaifontein, last Wednesday.
The Hawks are investigating a case of armed robbery involving Constable Sandile Edward, 33, stationed at the Nyanga police station. He was arrested at his Khayelitsha home on Wednesday May 4.
Five others involved in the incident remain at large.
It is alleged that Constable Edward and his partners-in-crime pulled over the cash-in-transit vehicle at Wabrug Road and robbed the guards at gunpoint before making off with an undisclosed amount of cash. At least one bag containing cash was recovered, Western Cape Directorate of Priority Crime Investigations (Hawks) spokesman, Lieutenant Lloyd Ramovha, said.
Constable Edward appeared at the Blue Downs Magistrate’s court on Friday May 6, and will make his next appearance for his bail application in the same court on Thursday May 19. The accused remains in custody, Lieutenant Ramovha said.
