In celebration of Global Disability Awareness Month, Nosh for Josh, an organisation established to create autism awareness, will host the Christmas Cookie Bake-off for autism this weekend.

The bake-off will take place at the Good Hope Suites at GrandWest Casino, in Goodwood. Tickets can be bought through Quicket as well as at the door.

The proceeds will be donated to organisations working with special-needs children.

Nosh for Josh was established by 15-year-old Joshua Sandy’s parents, Sandy Pekeur-Sandy and Marc Sandy, to create awareness around autism.

Joshua was diagnosed with autism when he was 2. He was born on World Autism Day, April 2.

He enjoys baking cookies and launched the Be My Voice Cookies baking initiative on his 15th birthday this year.

“Not only does he bake the most delicious cookies ever, he also wants to use some of the proceeds, skills, and influence to make a difference for the disabled people community,” says Ms Pekeur-Sandy.

No matter who you are, you deserve a chance to prove what you’re made of to the world, she says.

“I want to give all differently-abled people that chance. I want them never to feel powerless, unwanted, and rejected like others when they are looking for a meaningful job.”

Each baker will receive 10 pre-baked cookies, which they will glaze, decorate, and package themselves.

They will be able to keep five cookies and the other five will be given to selected beneficiaries.

There will also be performances by Ami Williams, Charne Hugo, Rushdien Abdol and Benjiman Beatboxer.
