Brackenfell residents unknowingly helped to capture the alleged killer of an elderly man on Friday September 15.
The 31-year-old suspect was arrested after he was stopped by residents while driving a white BMW.
Khayelitsha police passed the scene and arrested the man for theft of a motor vehicle. An additional murder charge was added when the owner of the BMW was found dead in his home.
Brackenfell police spokeswoman Captain Erica Crous, said it was suspected that the man, 64, had died from wounds inflicted by a sharp object. The suspect appeared in Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court on Monday September 18 and was remanded in custody until his next appearance on Friday September 22.
