The City’s parks department will start extensive pruning of trees along main roads and surrounds in Durbanville and Bellville next week.
Parks employees will remove dead wood and trim branches back from street lights, traffic signs, overhead cables, pavements and roads.
Suzette Little, mayoral committee member for area north, said the work would be done “responsibly and with great care” by “trained professionals” to ensure trees did no pose a threat to road users and properties.
“It also benefits the trees and adds to the aesthetics of our neighbourhoods,” she said.
“The work will result in neater and safer streets. Some shade might be lost; but this will be limited as far as possible. We request that residents be patient and cautious while work is in progress. Contractors adhere to agreed specifications and no one should interfere with their work,” said Ms Little.
