Maintenance and repairs will be done to Kraaifontein pavements during lockdown, and this could cause some traffic delays, says the City.
Under level 4 regulations, the City’s transport directorate can do civil engineering works across the metro, and Kraaifontein’s sidewalks are on its to-do list. The pavements along Van Riebeeck Street, between Ninth Avenue and Van der Merwe Street, will be repaired from Monday to Saturday, from 7am to 5pm, until June 30.
Mayco member for transport Felicity Purchase said there would be a stop-go for both directions of traffic in Van Riebeeck Street. The work was necessary to improve the longevity of road infrastructure, she said. It included resurfacing and replacing handrails where needed.
“I appeal to all road users and pedestrians to adhere to the signage displayed during the construction period. Although the roads may be quieter due to the lockdown, we still advise road-users to consider alternative routes,” she said.
