City officials helped an Oakdale family clean up their property on Thursday November 9 as an act of goodwill.
Several complaints have been logged with the City over the past two years about the state of the property.
The owner of the property has been diagnosed with stomach cancer, the owner’s wife has chronic diabetes, and both their children have learning disabilities.
The family’s only income is a grant, and although they tried to clear the property, they have continually battled to comply with the notices served on them because money is tight.
“This joint clean-up will improve the family’s quality of life and now they have a space they can really call home. There comes a time when people just need a little bit of help – this is only human,” said JP Smith, mayoral committee member for safety and security; and social services.
