The Bellville-based team of, from left, Keshia Reynolds, Riefaat Hattas and Moemienah Veldsman received the electricity services’, education and awareness award at an event where the City of Cape Town acknowledged its star performers. Pierrine Leukes, mayor Patricia de Lille’s spokeswoman, said the team won the mayoral award in the caring City category. Ms Leukes said this had been for outstanding service delivered in educating primary school pupils, informal settlements and new housing beneficiaries about electrical safety, streetlight vandalism and illegal connections. She said the group had been willing to work in the evenings and on Saturdays. Ms Leukes said this had resulted in more than 250 000 residents being educated in the past 10 years. The team also played a huge role in the City, winning the energy efficiency awards for two years in a row. Fellow team members Sidwell Twalo and Dumisani Nana are not pictured.
