Car thief, robber caught

Police arrested a man and recovered a stolen car at a Goodwood hotel last week.

Police spokesman Captain Waynne Theunis said officers had been tipped off about a “suspicious vehicle” parked at N1 City Shopping Mall.

When they got there, on Tuesday May 15, at 6.20pm, they learnt the white Mercedes Benz was at the N1 City Road Lodge.

“The members rushed there and found the suspect as he was getting out of the car,” said Captain Theunis.

The 45-year-old man could not prove ownership of the vehicle, and when the officers ran a check on it, they found it had been stolen in Table View.

* Police arrested two men at the weekend after they were allegedly found with stolen security gates.

Captain Theunis said officers had been patrolling the Value Centre parking lot just after noon Sunday May 20 when they had spotted the men, aged 30 and 33, with the gates.

The men had also had six new cutting discs and one Yale lock, and had been arrested when they could not explain how they got the goods.

* Police have arrested a 35-year-old woman accused of robbing the same victim twice.

Captain Theunis said the suspect had allegedly punched a woman on the Monte Vista bridge on Sunday May 13, at 3pm, and stolen R20 from her before running off.

On Sunday May 20, at 2.30pm, the woman had been robbed at the same spot by the same suspect, who had allegedly attacked her from behind and taken R300 cash and a cellphone.

The suspect was arrested in in Ruyterwacht.
