Car rental company scammed

Durbanville police have warned car-hire agencies to check their clients’ details after two vehicle theft cases were reported at the station last week.

Durbanville police spokesman Captain Marchelle Rhode said that in both cases, the two suspects, who identified themselves as ‘”Hazel Chikwewe” and “Donald Nyikadzino”, had hired vehicles — a R250 000 Honda Brio sedan and a R450 000 Toyota Quantum 14-seater bus – from a Durbanville company.

The firm called the clients after getting an alert that the vehicles’ tracker devices were being tampered with, but their phones were off.

“After investigation, it was found that the suspects used false documentation to obtain the vehicles,” Captain Rhode said.
