A Fisantekraal mother aims to spread a message of hope, for children, in line with Child Protection Week.
Zinzi Johannes, 42, a mother of two boys, said her #zinziblossoms campaign was launched shortly after publishing her book in March.
“Let the light in/ Laat die lig instroom is a book reminding children that there is more to this world than struggles. There will always be struggles, it cannot be avoided but light brings hope and hope brings with it a resilience to overcome,” she said.
The English version of the book was published in March and the Afrikaans version was published last month.
“The mini campaign is to bring a little bit of light, one book at a time. In essence, when you buy a book, you sponsor a book to a vulnerable child,” she said.
Ms Johannes said her campaign was able to donate her first batch of 50 books to a non-profit organisation, Resilient Kids SA, in Fisantekraal on Thursday May 23.
She said: “When I give the books to children I explain what blossoming is all about and ask them a few questions and do a little activity with them to try and invoke feelings of gratitude and hope.”
Child Protection Week started on Wednesday May 29 and will end on Wednesday June 5.
Ms Johannes said she was open to giving talks at schools or any relevant community activities.
