■ Three men will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court later this week for their involvement in a business robbery in Salt River and a subsequent shoot-out on the N1 highway on Friday November 24, at 12.15pm. Captain Waynne Theunis, spokesman for Goodwood police, said a member of the provincial SAPS Organised Crime Unit was driving on the N1 highway in the direction of Cape Town when he saw four men jumping out of a white VW Golf. Captain Theunis said the member and members of the flying squad chased the suspects and ordered them to stop. “They ignored him and kept on running. The member then fired warning shots on the ground. When the suspects did not stop, he fired a further three shots. One of the suspects then fired at the member, who returned fire. One suspect was hit in the head and throat,” he said. Captain Theunis said an undisclosed amount of money and a number of cellphones were confiscated, from the suspects along with two firearms, of which one’s serial number was filed off,” he said.
