Bus strike looms

If you use the bus to get around, you should make alternative plans as Golden Arrow Bus Services (GABS) staff are expected to embark on a nationwide strike from today.

In a statement GABS said: “As a result of dead-locked wage negotiations, the unions’ party to the South African Road Passengers Bargaining Council (SARPBAC) have given notice of their intention to embark upon strike action on 18 April 2018.

“Negotiations are still taking place and Golden Arrow remains hopeful that an agreement can still be reached. If the strike action goes ahead, Golden Arrow will institute a company-wide lock-out in order to ensure the safety of our passengers and staff for the duration of the strike.

In the event of a strike, weekly and monthly clipcards that are valid when the strike starts, will be extended when service resumes.

The City has confirmed that the MyCiTi bus service will also be suspended.
