Burglars target Parow and Goodwood

Burglars continue to plague the Plattekloof, Monte Vista and Welgelegen areas, according to reports posted by District Watch on its Facebook page.

A burglar removed a lounge window from a home in Kreupelhout Close, Plattekloof, on Friday August 21 and stole a TV and three laptops. Parow police arrived on the scene at 10am.

On the same day, at 2.20pm, the front door and safety gate of a Montague Drive house were forced open.

District Watch officers found a flat screen TV had been removed from a wall bracket. Goodwood police were on the scene at 2.41pm.

There was an attempted burglary at a house in Mon Repos Crescent, Welgelegen, on Friday August 19, at 6.39am.

The homeowner told District Watch officers that someone had removed a front window.

He said the burglar might have jumped over a wall onto his neighbour’s property.

An officer investigated and found the neighbour’s store room had been ransacked.

A domestic worker told the officer the intruder had a scar under his right eye and wore blue pants and a jersey with stripes at the bottom. He is still at large.

Parow police spokesman Captain Kevin Williams confirmed the incidents.

Goodwood station commander Colonel Hansia Hansraj urged the community to report all cases to the police.

Panorama, Welgelegen and Plattekloof Neighbourhood Watch spokesman, Hannes Rudman, said the number of burglaries and attempted burglaries in the area was worrying.

The watch, he said, held joint patrols with District Watch, and block watches were being formed. “We need to make it difficult for criminals to commit their crimes,” said Ms Rudman.

He urged residents to get involved with community policing structures and be vigilant.
