Burglars caught

Police arrested three men last week as they sped away from the scene of a burglary in Parow, finding a flat-screen TV and computer tablet in the boot of the men’s rented car, along with a crowbar.

Parow police spokesman Lieutenant Kevin Williams said it was unclear yet whether the men had used the crowbar to break into the home. A patrol van was responding to a call-out for a burglary on Thursday April 7, at 11.45am, when officers spotted a gold or brown Toyota Etios speeding past them.

The three men in the car matched a description witnesses had provided and the officers pursued the car into a cul-de-sac where they arrested the men.

The hired car had Gauteng registration plates, which had been replaced by false ones. Two of the men are from Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga; the third is from Mfuleni.

Apart from the flat-screen TV and the tablet, police also found various household items on the car’s front passenger seat.

The homeowner was not at home during the burglary, but he was notified about it and later identified his stolen property.

The three men appeared in the Bellville Magistrate’s court on Monday April 11 on house-breaking charges.

* Police arrested a woman and two men after a man reported being robbed of his cellphone, money and bank cards at lover’s lane close to Bellville library in the early hours of Tuesday April 5.

The man claimed the woman and two men had robbed him, and the woman had then fled to a house in Parow.

An officer entered the house and arrested the woman after the victim pointed her out to him. Police also arrested the two men in a car parked near the house.

The three appeared in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Thursday April 7 on charges of robbery.

* On Thursday April 7, about 8.15pm, Constables Steven Drury and Justin Mentoor visited a well-known drug outlet in Surrey Street, Goodwood, where they found a Moto Mia Scooter.

Goodwood police spokesman Lieutenant Waynne Theunis said the officers confirmed the scooter had been stolen in Woodstock, and they arrested a 26-year-old Kensington man for being in possession of stolen property.
