Brenda Hansen will take over as chairperson of Sub-council 2 to replace Grant Twigg who has been appointed as the City of Cape Town’s mayoral committee member for urban management.
Ms Hansen is the councillor for Ward 111, which includes Scottsville, Summerville, Wallacedene, Belmont Park and Peerless Park.
In her speech during the election ceremony at the Sub-council 2 chambers on Friday December 14, Ms Hansen said: “I want to thank all councillors who have put their faith in me.
“I have learned from the best which is Alderman Grant Twigg and I will continue with his legacy.”
Ms Hansen has been the councillor for Ward 111 since 2016 after being a member of the City of Cape Town’s Homeless Agency Committee. Asked what she hoped to achieve in the coming year, she said: “As a woman, in charge, I will continue serving residents by the grace of God.”
Ms Hansen said she was passionate about working with the elderly and youth in her communities. Over the past weekend, she took a group of young girls on an all girls empowerment camp.
Ward 102 councillor Rhynhardt Bresler said he believed Ms Hansen would bring her best to the sub-council in the new year.
He said her experiences of being a councillor had proven that she could take on the upcoming challenges.
