Brackenfell police make R2m abalone bust

Brackenfell police arrested two men and seized R2 million worth of abalone at the weekend.

Police arrested two men, aged 26 and 36, in a R2 million abalone bust in Brackenfell, on Sunday.

The bust was a “huge blow” to the illegal trade, said provincial police spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swaartbooi.

Brackenfell police on patrol had spotted boxes being loaded from a double-cab Ford Ranger onto a truck, he said.

The officers called for backup and stopped the truck near the corner of Viben and Petersen roads, where they inspected the cargo and found 12 boxes of drive abalone with a street value of nearly R2m.
