The Fernpark Neighbourhood Watch scooped two awards at the City’s neighbourhood watch awards ceremony at the weekend.
The watch won the Team of the Year and Situational Crime Prevention awards.
“These awards are a testament to the active and involved communities represented in the Ferndale, Karee Park and Springbok Park suburbs,” said watch chairwoman Brenda Verheem.
“(They) clearly illustrate the fact that when collaboration between the community, police and local armed response companies is great, then the sum of the parts truly equals more than the whole.”
The City said the watch “upholds, with outstanding achievement, the purpose of safeguarding its members and property against crime and other safety concerns” and contributed “towards a clean, healthy and safe environment”.
Mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith applauded all the winners.
“They really are a critical cog in our response to crime, but also disasters and general community matters,” he said.
