Boy, 13, stabbed after school

Police arrested a boy last week after he allegedly stabbed a fellow pupil in the neck with a screwdriver.

According to Captain Isaac van Niekerk, the spokesman for Kuils River police station, officers were patrolling near Irista Primary School in Sarepta on Wednesday August 30, when a resident hailed them and told them about the incident in John Street, at 2.45pm.

Police found a 13-year-old boy who had been stabbed. He was admitted to hospital, Captain Van Niekerk said.

Later that day, police arrested another 13-year-old boy in connection with the stabbing.

He appeared in Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court on Friday September 1.

On Saturday September 2, community activist Dawn Roode, who knows the family of the boy who had been stabbed, said he had been discharged and was “safely at home with his family”.

* A man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Eikendal last week. According to provincial police spokesman, Captain FC Van Wyk, members of Operation Combat arrested the 24-year-old man in Third Avenue, Eikendal, in the late evening on Friday September 1, after a tip-off.

They confiscated a 9mm Vektor pistol, a magazine and 15 rounds of ammunition.
