■ The elderly and disabled were given blankets and meals on Thursday June 22, at Bloekombos Primary School. The hand-out took place at the end of an information awareness drive with the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), Home Affairs and Dial-a-Ride. The event was hosted by Bloekombos and Wallacedene ward councillor Luyanda Mbele. He said he had arranged the event from his ward allocation budget because senior citizens and the disabled frequently had problems with their grant payments, ID books and transport. Pictured with their blankets are, from left, Patricia Barends of Wallacedene, Christina Batini of Bloekombos, Funeka Ndyambothi of Wallacedene and Michael Barakwane of Bloekombos.
