Bazaar to raise funds for ward

Ward 70 councillor Andrea Crous says they need residents to support their bazaar.

Ward 70 residents are urged to come out to the Bellville Velodrome on Saturday May 6 and support a bazaar to raise R1 million for the area’s budget.

Councillor Andrea Crous is hoping to raise the money for projects including various safety and security initiatives and upgrading of public open spaces.

Ward 70 includes areas such as Tygervalley, Welgemoed, Hoheizen, Loevenstein, Kenridge and Protea Valley.

The bazaar will host a variety of food and white elephant stalls, a bric-a-brac table, as well as jumping castles for all ages, a wrestling show, mechanical bull and dance show, among others.

Ms Crous believes they can raise the R1 million, but only if every resident in Ward 70 supports this initiative.

The funds will be used in line with the five-year plan for the ward which was created with the input of residents.

Ms Crous met with Ward 70 residents for the initial bazaar meeting on Thursday February 2 and has been working to
raise publicity, collect donations and to secure sufficient stalls for the day.

The stalls will be manned by residents from Ward 70 with volunteers working shifts.

Ms Crous said the funds will be used in addition to the ward allocations, to cover additional projects.

She said the event was an opportunity to build a pro-active community and good relationships.

“Everybody is responsible for his or her own safety. This is sometimes difficult, but if we all work together, get to know our neighbours and the abilities of other people, our combined strength will contribute to our own safety,” she said.

Ms Crous said the support from the 14 neighbourhoods in Ward 70 has been amazing with 200 residents working together to pull off this event.

“Working together like this, more and more residents start to realise that if we all work together towards one goal, that we can make the city a better place for everybody,” she said.

The bazaar takes place from 8.30am to 7pm and parking will also be available on the west side of the Velodrome (Virgin Active’s side) with easy access to the Velodrome through the side gate.
