A 21-year-old man is behind bars for trying to smuggle eight dagga bullets and 39 mandrax tablets to a mate and they both appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on Friday March 17.
In a statement issued last week, Goodwood SAPS spokesman Captain Waynne Theunis said the suspect was spotted by Sergeant Craig Rautenbach, who was at court for another matter. The 21-year-old was out on bail but the other suspect was still in custody.
“He saw how a suspect who was on bail appeared with another suspect who was in custody. After their appearance, the suspect who was on bail left the court but left his jacket behind. One of the suspects, who was in custody and returned to the holding cells, then took the jacket.
Sergeant Rautenbach smelled a rat and searched the jacket, where he found drugs.
He arrested the suspect for possession of drugs.
A 24-year-old suspect is behind bars after he robbed a woman of her handbag on Frans Conradie Drive, Goodwood, last week.
According to Captain Theunis, the incident happened on Tuesday March 21, at 8.45am, when the man grabbed the handbag and fled on foot. The woman shouted for help and bystanders chased after the man, who dropped the bag. He was caught and handed over to police. The suspect appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on a charge of robbery.
“We have recorded a number of incidents where arrests would not have been possible without the intervention of members of the community,” said Captain Theunis.
