Author publishes second offering

Dudley Brandt from Soneike in Kuils River.

A Kuils River pensioner launched his second book, Fluistering van die Berge, at the Kuils River library last week.

Retired teacher Dudley Brandt, 70, from Soneike in Kuils River, said he had always had a passion for writing but never had the time during his working years to write a book.

This is his second self-published book since he retired.

After his first book, Portrait in the Gang, received a good response, he was encouraged to start work on a second. And he is now editing an English version of that book, Whispering of the Mountains, which will be available at the Kuils River library next year.

Originally from Mossel Bay,
Mr Brandt finished his schooling career in Oudtshoorn.

“As a young man, I wrote my first play for our church youth group. We then went out in Oudtshoorn. Initially, I wanted to write a historical book about churches in coloured communities,” he said.

The book is a fictional love story set in the Klein Karoo. It’s about a woman who finds herself in love with two men.

Mr Brandt said it had been challenging putting himself in the shoes of the female character to feel the hurt and pain of women with a broken heart.

“The book teaches one about love, perseverance, hard work, compassion, sacrifice, realising dreams under extreme circumstances and that every obstacle you face, you can overcome,” he said.

Mr Brandt is selling his latest book for R200. Contact him at 084 614 0644 or dudleybrandt@gmail.com if you want a copy.
