Teaching children the alphabet

Loandi Malherbe launched a children's activity book.

A Kraaifontein tutor has compiled an activity book to help children learn the alphabet.

The 134-page book by Loandi Malherbe was unveiled at the Kraaifontein library on Saturday September 7. It has both Afrikaans and English versions and uses illustrations and exercises to teach 4-to-6-year-olds the alphabet.

Ms Malherbe, 28, has an Honours degree in special-needs education.

Learning the alphabet was the foundation of being able to read and write, Ms Malherbe said.

“If you can read, you are able to do mathematics or any other subject which requires reading.”

She said she had ploughed “endless hours” into making her book “unique and fun”.
