Abalone bust in Parow North

Police arrested a 30-year-old man in Parow North for being in possession of R900 000 worth of abalone, on Thursday October 12.

According to provincial police spokesman Captain FC Van Wyk, dog unit officers and Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) agents, acting on a tip-off, found three boxes of 598 units of dried abalone in the back of a white BMW X5, at De Grendel Villas.

Inside the premises, they found a further 6 439 units of wet abalone, weighing about 500kg.

The suspect was due to appear in court on Friday October 13.
