More than 500 people, all dressed in flashes of pink, took part in a 5km Women’s Day Walk in Fisantekraal on Thursday August 9. Ward 105 councillor Ruan Beneke said he hoped the inaugural event would encourage weekly and daily group walks in the area. “I am also looking forward to building the Women’s Day event into something very special where this forms part of the annual Durbanville events calendar.”
Mr Beneke said the seed for the walk was first sown by Finance MEC Ivan Meyer, who is the constituency chairman for Ward 105 in Durbanville.
“We asked the community to be a part of the planning process and formed a steering committee, which in collaboration with the City’s parks and recreation directorate, took this event forward,” said Mr Beneke.
“There were various spot prizes on the day, and all women received a participation pack with women’s products.”
