The Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre will host its 21st annual Concerto Festival on Sunday August 26, at 6pm.

Fourteen young soloists will perform with the Hugo Lambrechts Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Liam Burden.

This year the Music Centre has launched a new performance category, which grants a young aspiring conductor the opportunity to conduct an orchestral work with the Hugo Lambrechts Symphony Orchestra.

The successful candidate is Damian Philander who will be conducting the orchestra in a performance of The Light Cavalry Overture by Franz von Suppé.

Winner of the 2017 SAMRO Hubert van der Spuy Music Competition, pianist Mike Wang, will perform, while the winner of the 2017 National Youth Music Competition, the violinist Gilah Kellner will also solo with the Hugo Lambrechts Symphony Orchestra together with several other young musicians from Cape Town, Somerset West and Bloemfontein.

The programme for the Concerto Festival includes compositions by Telemann, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Shostakovich, Scriabin and our own Allan Stephenson from Cape Town.

Tickets cost R130 for adults and R100 for children and students. For details call the centre on 021 939 9105 or email
