Journey, a collaboration between the Zip Zap Circus and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO), will be staged at the Artscape Opera House, in November.
The show promises spectacular choreography, dazzling trapeze displays, sensational aerial silks and wild jugglers all set to the full symphonic sound of South Africa’s oldest orchestra.
Journey will take audiences from the classics to the space age, and while the CPO plays works ranging from Wagner to Williams under the direction of Brandon Phillips, the Zip Zap performers will spin, tumble and fly through the air.
“We are delighted with this collaboration,” says Brent van Rensburg, Zip Zap’s co-founder and director of the show.
“When the Cirque de la Symphonie came to town, Zip Zap presented the curtain-raiser and now we have developed our own spectacle. When one adds the technical opportunities of the Opera House at Artscape, the sky is the limit.”
Journey is also a fund-raiser for the expansion of Zip Zap into new premises in Salt River.
“The 1 500 children come from all walks of life and learn an array of life skills while improving their circus techniques. We are extremely grateful to the CPO and Artscape for giving their support and time to our goal of inspiring kids for life,” said Van Rensburg.
The shows are on Friday and Saturday November 10 and 11, at 7.30pm, with a matinee on Sunday November 12, at 3pm.
Tickets at R180, R240 and R300 are available at Computicket or through Artscape-Dial-A-Seat at 021 421 7695.
Special price pensioners/students and pupils tickets are available along with an early-bird offer if tickets are bought before Friday September 15. VIP tickets cost R1 000.
