Lockdown inspires musician

Richard Juries

Covid-19 and lockdown are not music to most people’s ears, but a Hanover Park singer has used this time to his advantage and released his first single, Good Enough.

Richard Juries, 29, an advocate for mental health and an LGBTIQ+ activist, says his life experiences led him to put pen to paper and write the song.

“My experience with depression and anxiety led me to cultivate a song of self-love and self-acceptance.

As an activist for LGBTIQ+ and mental health awareness, I was inspired to write an anthemic mantra that allows the listener to speak positivity over their lives by saying, ‘I’m Good Enough’.”

The song compared life to an artist’s creative processes, he said.

Mr Juries said he had been reminded of a time when he had struggled to walk home in a heavy rainstorm.

“Whether it is our circumstances or the people in our lives who burn us out, I want everybody to realise that we can rise above it everyday, despite it all.”

He kicked off his solo musical journey in June last year with his debut show, This Is Me.
