■ Bookings for King Kong – The Musical at The Fugard Theatre have been extended and the next run of the show will now be from Tuesday December 12 to Sunday February 18. More than half a century since the first performance in 1959, King Kong tells the story of heavyweight 50s boxing champion Ezekiel Dlamini, whose self-appointed ring name was “King Kong”, to the music of Todd Matshikiza. Stepping in to the shoes of shebeen queen Joyce, the role which helped propel Miriam Makeba to international fame in the original production, will be Edith Plaatjies, pictured. A live nine-piece band, under the direction of Sipumzo Trueman Lucwaba, accompanies every performance. King Kong is at 8pm with a 4pm matinee on Saturdays and Sundays. There will be a performance on New Year’s Eve, Sunday December 31, at 2pm. Tickets cost from R130 to R280. Book through Webtickets or The Fugard Theatre Box office on 021 461 4554.
