Seasoned bass player Chadleigh Gowar will be returning to Mitchell’s Plain to host his show My African Praise: The Celebration on Sunday October 1 at Petra Life Centre in Rocklands.
Gowar, 35, who grew up in Hanover Park, lived in Beacon Valley and now calls Kuils River home, has been playing the bass for over 20 years.
“It all started at home. I grew up in a musical family. Eleven was when I first picked up the bass and played in church which I still do today. In 2008 I started playing professionally,” he said.
It was while living in Beacon Valley that he was introduced to gospel concerts.
“I am very excited about my show called My African Praise: The Celebration. It has been 10 years since the last My African Praise concert and five years since the last Celebration Concert,” he said.
Mr Gowar has also played alongside musicians Jonathan Rubain, Ernie Smith, Ramon Alexander, Pastor Kevin Booysen, Richard Caesar, Ibrahim Khalil Shihab and his hero, Sammy Webber.
He has learned from them that longevity is a big part of credibility. He is always grateful and honoured to have worked alongside musicians in the city.
“Being overlooked as a musician who knows their potential has always been a challenge. I’ve come to learn that everything happens for a reason and there’s purpose to everything even in your waiting season. Everything happens ‘For My Good,’ as the song says,” he said.
“God’s timing is perfect, don’t force things. Allow things to fall into place naturally, do what you can and allow God to do the rest.”
Gowar will also be releasing his album on Sunday October 1 which will be available on all digital platforms.
The concert will showcase music in honour of, “God our creator. We’re celebrating diversity in the kingdom of God,” he said.
Doors open at 5pm and the show will start at 6pm. Tickets cost R120 through Webtickets.
